The Curious Incident of the Pizza in the Night-Time

February 16, 2007

Or, Why You Should Not Be Lazy and Leave Your Trash On the Back Porch, Just Put Your Damn Shoes On and Put the Damn Bag in the Damn Trash Can:

She's all, "Shit. What?"

Img_6944

Her little purseness is really the last bastion of yuppiehood we've got going for us these days, and probably the only thing keeping us from full-on whitetrashville, I think.

Hee. I love her.

How awesome that you can just go in your backyard and play in the snow. On second thought, I probably wouldn't say that if it was my backyard. I live in Phoenix, no snow here. Ever.

Posted by: Jaime | February 16, 2007 at 02:49 PM

Puppies do love their pizza.

Posted by: Robyn | February 16, 2007 at 02:53 PM

At least it wasn't Chinese leftovers. That'd be ugly.

Posted by: HollowSquirrel | February 16, 2007 at 02:56 PM

Awww, wookit Ceiba. Now....WHERE IS MAX?

Posted by: AmyM | February 16, 2007 at 03:05 PM

Delurking to say OMG--Ceiba is too cute...even when she is stealing cold pizza from the trash! :) My 4 pound chihuahua Lola's vice is fried chicken. Small dogs and greasy foods do not mix. 'Nuff said.

Posted by: Katie | February 16, 2007 at 03:07 PM

Ha, too funny! I love how she brought it up to the door and everything.

Posted by: Robbi | February 16, 2007 at 03:14 PM

I love your pursedog!

Posted by: Robbi | February 16, 2007 at 03:16 PM

I think she assumed it was her reward for having to go into the snow. That's what my dogs would think.

Posted by: Zoot | February 16, 2007 at 03:18 PM

Ha, sweet! She looks like she thinks she's going to bring the pizza inside to chew on.. "Hey, ma! Look what I found! It wants to come home with me!"

Posted by: Erin | February 16, 2007 at 03:19 PM

Adorable! It's like she's proud of her accomplishment and parading it around. There would have been no photographic evidence of my black lab stealing pizza - he eats too damn fast!

Posted by: Amy M | February 16, 2007 at 03:21 PM

So did you let her finish the pizza, or did you take it away from her? It was pretty cold out, and she probably worked pretty hard to get that. ;^)

Posted by: MMM | February 16, 2007 at 03:47 PM

I'm loving that the top google ad I see is "Dog Proof Trash Can". He he!

Posted by: Melinda | February 16, 2007 at 03:50 PM

you THREW perfectly good pizza away?????????

Posted by: lhd | February 16, 2007 at 03:58 PM

Do you normally toss whole pieces of Pizza in your trash? If so, don't be surprised when you find me on your back porch instead of Ceiba.

Posted by: Avalon | February 16, 2007 at 04:03 PM

She's just an innocent little doggie who lurves her some pizza!

Posted by: Tirzah | February 16, 2007 at 04:05 PM

Lucky lucky little dog!

My wiener isn't allowed any people food 'cept veggies (she loves loves loves snap peas)

Wieners are very prone to chunkiness, so she misses out on all the goodies.

Pizza=never!

Posted by: Britt | February 16, 2007 at 04:11 PM

So cute. Even stealing food from the trash.

Posted by: Flo-Queen of the Bad Mommies | February 16, 2007 at 04:49 PM

You think that's bad? We leave the Diaper Jeanie liner sitting on our front porch! White-Trash here we COME!

Posted by: earlyduckie | February 16, 2007 at 04:51 PM

We were just worried about how trashy our house looks when we walked home from the bus today. Lets see, dead christmas tree on the front lawn? check. broken toilet under tarp? dead plants on porch? check. christmas wreath dangling from mailbox? check. check check check.

Can I have her? ;*)

Posted by: jody2ms | February 16, 2007 at 05:14 PM

I love how she reassures us with her eyes that, yes, this is a rather large slice of pizza clamped between my jaws, but I totally have it under control. Do not concern yourself with my pizza consumption.

Posted by: Vaguely Urban | February 16, 2007 at 05:27 PM

What is leftover pizza? I wouldn't know. Except the kind that got left out overnight in a frat house back in college. Maybe Ceiba is craving a little frat party?

Posted by: The Yap | February 16, 2007 at 07:14 PM

Nous aimons la Ceiba.

Posted by: ali | February 16, 2007 at 08:05 PM

I thought my dog was the only one who lays across the steps like that. Except she's bigger than Ceiba and likes to sleep there when we're bringing down laundry or something.

Either way, too cute!

Posted by: Claire | February 16, 2007 at 08:05 PM

"If I stand very still the human will not notice me and I can slowly eat the pizza."

Posted by: Erica | February 16, 2007 at 08:29 PM

OMG what a preshus little forager you have!!!!!!!! Seriously, can she get any cuter yet tough at the same time? I love how her ears are folded down in the second pic.

Posted by: Sarah Marie | February 16, 2007 at 08:48 PM

I hope there were 3 pizzas involved on this evening because otherwise somebody really didn't eat their share of pizza.

Also, could I please have your dog?

Posted by: Fi | February 16, 2007 at 08:58 PM

I must admit that I'm guilt of this. However, since my neighbors don't leave their doorway to assure that their dog doesn't poop on my front step, I in no way feel guilty about the matter. In fact, I'm just proud of myself for getting the trash to the front porch so my boyfriend can take it to the dumpster when he gets home from work. I love your dog though. Absolutely adorable!

Posted by: Ellie's Mommie | February 16, 2007 at 10:43 PM

At least Ceiba was kind enough to wait until she was outside. My dog dragged garbage from the kitchen to the living room yesterday. I'm still not speaking to her. Also, she ate so many ziploc bag shreds that I am hopeful her poop come be all bundled up and ready for disposal.

Ceiba is adorable and I can see why you love her.

Posted by: Starbuck | February 17, 2007 at 12:21 AM

Pardon my poor grammar. It's the whitetrashville in me, I think.

Posted by: Starbuck | February 17, 2007 at 12:24 AM

the return of ceiba.
fantastic.

Posted by: tiffany | February 17, 2007 at 12:32 AM

All I can think of is how cold her tiny toes must be from running around in the snow! That is one pup that is not going to be putting her feet on anyone more than once tonight...

Posted by: LollypopFuzz | February 17, 2007 at 01:49 AM

hehehe

Posted by: christie | February 17, 2007 at 11:53 AM

Now all we need for WhiteTrashVille is a picture of Ceiba curled up in The Tire eating her pizza while Noah wanders around in just a dirty diaper and Amalah shaving her head while smoking a cig and eating Cheetos.

Posted by: missbanshee | February 17, 2007 at 01:54 PM

Ceiba is adorable :)

My minpin has figured out how to open the trash can too. Good times :)

Posted by: Andrea | February 17, 2007 at 02:23 PM

Ha! That pizza is almost as big as her. First there was pride, then there was shame, then Ceiba was behind, or rather under, bars. Poor, little cutey.

Posted by: Kanigget | February 17, 2007 at 04:08 PM

She looks so pleased with herself. She's quite the hunter and gatherer.

Posted by: angela | February 17, 2007 at 04:09 PM

Mmmmm, I love cold pizza too! I hope the pizza was on top of the trash or did she strew it all over your yard first?

Posted by: Fairly Odd Mother | February 17, 2007 at 09:16 PM

Hah - Ceiba's a pup after my own heart. Clever wee thing. She looks very, very content.

Posted by: Alyndabear | February 18, 2007 at 01:15 AM

She's awfully cute, but I can't believe you threw away a perfectly good breakfast like that!!

Oh, and Jaime, it would be nice if this were actual snow to play in. It's actually thick ice, from the ice storm that hit the east coast last week. No fun at all!

Posted by: Liz | February 18, 2007 at 01:41 AM

WTF is up with that SNOW in your backyard? Looks chilly!

I LOVE Ceiba starring in The Case of the Purloined Pizza! I hereby dub her Nancy Drool.

Posted by: Suzy Q | February 18, 2007 at 08:46 AM

Conan Doyle rocks the world (and is so handy for providing literary reference points!).

Posted by: Sarah | February 18, 2007 at 12:08 PM

She is such a cutie, what's not to love!

Posted by: Ari (Baking and Books) | February 18, 2007 at 12:31 PM

Ok your adorable yuppie symbol of a dog is WAY brighter and braver than my own little yuppie pug. Love how she is just far too civilized to eat pizza OUTDOORS. And how she maybe thinks she went out hunting and was finally successful - years of rooting through garbage finally paid off in the ultimate trophy kill. Mount this one over the fireplace baby, it's a beauty.

Posted by: Eva | February 18, 2007 at 12:50 PM

Chris and I want a dog SO BADLY. It's unreal. We just killed our first fish this week. After SEVEN days. We are officially not fish people.

Posted by: kerrianne | February 18, 2007 at 05:32 PM

Ceiba!

What you didn't put it out there for HER?!

My purse dogs are such primadonna's they will not step outside in inclement weather.

Posted by: Maria | February 19, 2007 at 08:12 AM

That is too cute. Maybe I should get a little purse dog...

Posted by: nonsoccermom | February 19, 2007 at 11:16 AM

She's like an ant - lifting food items that are 10 times her own weight. Strong little pup!
