Duuuudes. WTF day is it? Childbirth brain ate words not forming so good also boobs. Booobs! Dude. Etc.

Img_0303

Ezra Harrington Storch was discharged from the hospital Saturday morning, weighing in at a rather puny six pounds, 12 ounces.

Img_0320_2

He was put on a strict regimen of Moar Boobage. Expectations were low, as the boobs in question are known for their losing record in past seasons.

Young Storch is also having problems with his frenulum (AKA that stretchy bit of uselessness under the tongue), a condition his mother first started pointing out to people on Thursday morning, but oh, do you think anyone listened to her? Do you think she ever got the visit from a lactation consultant she requested over and over and OVER? Do you think it was at all helpful when the LC showed up AS WE WERE WALKING OUT THE DOOR POST-DISCHARGE to announce that hey! This baby is tongue-tied! How about that? I bet your boobs are KILLING YOU.

Do you think maybe someone is still just a tad annoyed by this, a little bit?

However, the teeth were gritted and the milks came in and  the Soothie gel pads were applied and GODDAMN, this kid is cute and at today's weigh-in we are back up to seven pounds even and the tongue-tie will be dealt with on Thursday and GODDAMN, this kid is cute.

WIN!

Anyway. I am tired, but Internet, I am so HAPPY. I know! I'm shocked too. I remember these days from last time, and I distinctly remember my hormones crashing through the floor sometime around day five. I remember much weeping.

I love him so much already. I love looking at him, feeding him, praising him for such good pooping! Best pooping ever! My in-laws left today and for now we're on our own, and yeah, I sure would like a little more sleep and a LOT more patience for Noah and his Terrible Attack of the Threes, Oh My God, I Love You So Much Too But Get A Freaking Grip On Yourself Already. But then he hugs and kisses the baby and the baby smells so good and is so tiny and Noah is so handsome and gigantic and there's little to do but just drink in the chaos and admit that it's still all kinds of awesome.

Img_0336_2

This, however, is not so awesome.

This is what happens when you bring home an infant who is a good three pounds under your clothing expectations, so even after a frantic trip to Target for some newborn footie sleepers you still aren't particularly well-stocked in clothing that won't swallow your baby's head up whole, and then you promptly go through every single one of those outfits in one day.

And then the dryer breaks.

Img_0337_2

Grill pan or pants? Take your pick.

(At least it wasn't a leg this time. I definitely prefer a busted appliance to a busted-up dog.)

OH. MY. HECK. That is one perfect, adorable child! Congratulations on the newest addition to your family.

erin

oy, the cuteness. it's almost too much. he is beautiful. i hope you continue with all the happiness :)

Nancy R

12lbs, 6oz. isn't so bad - it was our youngest's birthweight...she was also our smallest though.

Glad to hear the Moar Boobage is working a little better this time!

He's soooooo cute!

karion

He's adorable.

Also, I am 99% certain I have the same stove, assuming it is a convection-oven type one. Mine went out (the oven part, not the stove top) this weekend, so hopefully, I am not pregnant.

~*M*~

Can't respond...baby...nom nom...mmm...sniff...mmm...baby...

I love new appliances. I hope you get new and not fixed dryer :D

Samantha

My ovaries are aching now, and I think you may have talked me into having another sooner rather than later.

He's so freakin' adorable!!!!!

Anna S.

He's SOOOO cute! Your happiness gives me hope. I was so miserable after my first, AND had no supply of breast milk to speak of. Ah, you help make me feel like I'm ready to do it all again.

Ezra is amazingly adorable. I hope your drier situation is better soon!

Jennie

Congratulations! He is precious! =D

Courtney

Squee! He's so cute! And I would DIE if my dryer broke and I only have the one little bebe!

Anissa@Hope4Peyton

Hoping the boobage situation resolves quickly...but goddamnit he's cute!

Tiffany

I feel ya on the tongue tie. Definitely make sure somebody gets that done quick-like (if I were to do it again, I would sure yell a lot more).
Also, I want to nom your baybee.

kathryn

Okay, Amy... is it tacky to request a psa on frenulum (ii?), tongue-tie, and frenulectomy (which I assume you are doing?) I had the same problem with my son (my first born) and it was just so frustrating. I felt like I had failed the nursing olympics... It took two lactation consultants and $330 later we had learned about this strange unheard of bodypart. A small clip really helped the problem, but I remember the tears/the woes!

Also, another tip- have you tried the Medela Nipple shields? They are funky but they really help with latch for the "tongue-tied!"

Thanks for the pics. You grow some darn fine looking kids!

He is SO amazingly CUTE!

Congratulations!!!

Marilyn

I want badly to nom on him. TOO CUTE.

And I know all about that fershlugina frenulum. My puny runt (4lbs 15oz) was born was a nasty one and we didn't get it clipped for so long and he was so tiny and we were so worried that I ended up having to pump. BOO to that, I say. So I'm hoping the best for you and little Ezra. You kick that frenulum's butt.

Nicole

Most newborns look like potatoes, but neither Ezra nor Noah fell victim to that curse! Ezra is just as beautiful as newborn Noah was. Congrats!

sarah

seriously? cutest. baby. ever.

amber

Oh, I want little munchie right now so bad!!!! He is just so cute and perfect. Oh yummy!

Sadie

Hey! My baby was 6 pounds 12 ounces when she was born. She was not puny! So say my nether parts anyway.... :)
He's scrumptious, Amy. Congratulations!

Jennifer (prayedforone)

He's beautiful! Congrats again!

Amanda B

He's absolutely beautiful.

Jamie

Awww so cutesy! I was born tongue tied too! I'm 26 now. So was my mam. She had hers clipped when she was a teenager, even though it hadn't ever caused a problem. Apparently its very painful and it actually reformed back to how it was. She never got mine clipped as a result. I don't know if it was a problem with me feeding but I know the only difficulties I had were/are getting words out when i'm speaking quickly, sometimes I trip over words. Thats it. No speech impediment of any kind. I hope i'm not overstepping by commenting on this, just thought it might be of interest. Getting all commenty commenty lately - will shut up now. :)

P B

If the frenulum is what I think it is then all the veins that make a tongue sense are covered by that skin. If you get wool you could shrink it. Anyways there is a free cappuccino coupon from Barnes & Noble at this link; hxxp://www.barnesandnoble.com/email/nav.asp?r=1&r=1&PID=24816

The Usual Suspect

If the frenulum is what I think it is then it keeps a human from swallowing their tongue and it protects the major sensory nerves plus some veins.

Vic

I love that third picture of him - it's such an 'I win!' pic.

de

OMG! GORGEOUS! I want another one!!

Karen

Oh, he is just adorable. And the picture in the previous post of Noah with Baby Ezra was extra cute.

All three of my boys were tongue tied; the last two so seriously they couldn't even eat from a bottle. It's good that you're getting it seen to. My oldest wasn't clipped--he could eat from a bottle, so back then they said there was no need--and he still has mild speech issues. Was Noah tongue-tied?

Thanks for sharing Ezra. Now get some sleep. :)

kristy

love the name and he is so precious! congratulations!

Maria

He's so beautiful.

I'm so glad you didn't break the baby this time.

Katherine Gualtieri

He's beautiful!! Enjoy the newborn snuggly time.

My daughter was tongue tied at birth too. She nursed well, it was just a bit extra painful for me. We had her checked out at an ENT and he said her TT was too severe to just snip in the office. She ended up having surgery at 5 months and did great. She immediately nursed so much better!

Here's a before pic...

Here she is the day after surgery, still some redness...

Jenny

Both of my children were tongue-tied. My daughter had her tongue clipped at just a week old and they made me leave the room causing me to get all worked up, but she stopped crying the minute I held her. When my son came along I was such an EXPERT about the tongue-tied-ness of babies only they refused to clip his saying they would wait until he was older to see if he had any speech problems because of it. Different doctors. I was FURIOUS.

By the way, your boy? Is BEAUTIFUL. Such a distinguished name also. He's destined for greatness, that one.

I just had my first back in May.

Isn't it crazy how the world around you just dissapears for those first few days? Glad to know it's the same the second time around. Enjoy it!

Marianne

Good luck with everything, Amy. He's so cute!!!

Mirinda

Oh my, he is beautiful. He looks just like his big brother...and it seems like his mommy too :)

Khadra

he's very very cute!!!
and great timing on the dryer.

moo

Best. Post. Ever.

Congratulations! Enjoy your "new normal!"

tracey in toronto

Aw Amy....I feel your joy. Your description makes the awesomeness palpable. I'm getting all welly over here! Keep enjoying!

Seesh

Congratulations!!! Just wanted to thank you for bringing up the tongue-tied issue. omg, my baby was tongue-tied too, and it HURT so much to breastfeed, and I kept hearing from everyone that all that pain was PERFECTLY NORMAL, OH, IT'S SO NORMAL, EVERYONE GOES THROUGH IT, SO STOP COMPLAINING ALREADY AND PUT THINGS IN PERSPECTIVE!!! So it was never diagnosed and since I was a naive first time mom, I just dealt with it. I was also a stay at home mom, so I breastfed all day and all night for months and months on end!! Anyway, finally his frenulum actually broke on its own, during breastfeeding. I think he was three months old. When that happened, I freaked out, and then my husband (who is from Romania) took a look at it and said: oh, he had that tight tongue thing, and it just broke! That's good. I had it too as a baby and they said that's why I couldn't nurse.) I was like: WHAT?!!! I couldn't believe I had been in pain for so long, and all along my husband apparently knew of this condition, and it could have been helped waaaay before that. And sure enough, nursing was easier and pain free after that. Oh, and the LC at the hospital where my son was born was not very helpful, and I was too distracted in the first place by the fact that she kept calling breastmilk "titty juice". *cringe

becca

Oh, he is so lovely. Congratulations again! *tear* Love his middle name, love his little face; what a precious bundle you've been blessed with. Yay, Storch family of four!
Congratulations to you, too, Jason. You know, the daddy. You done good.

Jenn

He's just gorgeous!!!

So happy to hear things are going well and you are feeling so great! Hope his tongue-tied-ness correction goes well--Yay for you for knowing your shit and speaking up! Boo to them for being so crappy!

lizinsumner

He IS beautiful.....and he looks so, like, zen and calm and laid-back. But, I've never heard of tongue tied - what the heck it is?? Never mind, I'll google it - only, I'm afraid of getting gross medical-type pictures.......

Maria

OMG!!! How adorable. He is soooooo cute. And his name? I totally love it. Ezra Harrington? Love. love. love.

Amy in StL

Wow, that sucks about the dryer breaking. Good thing that baby clothes are small so they dry quickly, eh? Oh, and I didn't know that's what tongue-tied meant. I've learned something new today. (Wanders into boss' office) Hey, can I go home? I've learned one new thing already so I think I'm done!

Legallyblondemel

Perfection. Just perfection. Congratulations.

Kori

First off, he is SO CUTE. SO, SO, SO CUTE.

As for the tongue-tie, the nursing, the baby clothes, the dryer, I'll say what a good friend of mine said to me the other day:

"If it isn't one thing, it's twelve things."

Hang in there as you drip dry tiny, tiny clothes.

Once more, SO CUTE.

Sarah

Yay for the boobs! Yay for the healthy baby. He is so cute and tiny!

Miss Grace

Squishy baby smallness gasp love ohmygoodness I just fell over and died!

Tam.

I tried to think of something clever or poetic to say, but all I can come up with is, "Dang, that is one adorable baby!" So happy for you! :)

Wallydraigle

So much cute! It makes me want another one already (and she's only three weeks old). What a munchable little face. I hope you don't find that statement creepy. But that kid is totally edible.

Also, we have the same stove.

My son has that frenulum-freakiness going on. Are you seriously getting it taken care of this week? I just called the "oral surgeon" after being promised by the pediatrician that is was a simple matter of just making the appointment and bringing him in. BUT when the "oral surgeon's receptionist" found out my son was 2.5 months old, she FREAKED out and said they only do frenectomies at 6 yrs old! WTF!!! I had to stop nursing because of this and now they want to eff with my son's speech development and wait until he's 6!? I'm sorry, I'm venting on your blog. I seriously just got off the phone 5 minutes ago.
Ahem-best of luck with the nursing thing and the dryer thing and he really is absolutely beautiful.

bellevelma

I don't know where I've been. I was sitting here at the computer and suddenly thought, AMALAH! I wonder if she's had the baby yet. Doh! All caught up now, and just wanted to say Congratulations! And the video for Noah's birthday -- love it!

Michelle

That? Is a ridiculously adorable baby. Isn't it weird how your firstborn suddenly looks like like an entirely different critter when you bring the newborn home? Well done, Storches, once again.

(By the way, Ezra was on my list of names I loved for my second son but hubby shot it down. So excited that you selected that name for your little one.)

Sarah

He is so handsome! Congrats.

Ale

Your boys are just identical to you.... ;-)
Congratulations!

Undomestic Diva

I shit you not, I had a frenulotomy when I was two to correct the tongue-tied issue. Haven't heard of anyone else dealing with it before.

Darling little boy, that one.

Frances

Ack! -cut- that cute little baby guy? Presuming you already snipped elsewhere.....
My first boy was born tongue-tied and, like Lisa, was never presented with that option. Don't know how it might have changed things, but we did just fine without extra bleeding on the little guy's part.
Good work, Amy!

sheilah

GODDAMN, this kid is cute.

So happy you are happy.

GODDAMN, this kid is cute!

zandor

He is so adorable. The third picture is my favorite.

Natalie

He's quite possibly the cutest new born baby I've ever seen. Not kidding. (With the exception of Noah of course!)

Congratulations :)

joely

oh my, he is precious and just nom!

you have a beautiful family...congrats again!

Mariana Perri

I AM IN AWE... HE IS ABSOLUTELY WONDERFULLY MOST AMAZINGLY GORGEOUS!!!!
Congrats Noah on being a gorgeous big brother to a gorgeous little brother!

Courtney

I have three extremely tongue tied kids (forked / heart tongues.) It is hereditary on my husband's side... Unfortunately I had my kids in California where is "wasn't customary" to cut the frenulums..and I was in pain. So, thanks to the hippie state...I am looking at all three kids having to have their frenulums cut for dental/orthodontic purposes. Would have been much easier when they were babies. Get it done now. I grinned and bore it, and have the war scars to prove it. And I proved nothing. The tongues, all three of them, needed to be cut.

Courtney

Heather

Munch Munch. Delicious adorable baby. Munch munch.

Oh - sorry. Apparently wanting to eat other peoples adorable kiddos isn't Kosher.

So cute!!!

OMG, he's beautiful! Congratulations!

And, yeah, my dryer broke last week also.

BOSSY

It's amazing how much he looks like you. Ah-mazing. Congratulations from Aunt Bossy.

kelly

He is beautiful, enjoy! I would have another but we already have four.

Brenda

Awww, so cute! Congratulations!

Trista

Does anyone else think that this baby could be your twin?

Jordylass

Hi Amy, I've been reading and loving your blog for ages, but only the cutest pictures of your lovely baby have me unlurking. Enjoy him.

themikestand

Congratulations! I hope someday he'll get a kick out of reading about the whole pregnancy ordeal. After all, this is so much better than those Hallmark pregnancy journals.

Lisa

Oh, he is just so adorable. My heart goes pitter pat. Congratulations!

col

he's perfect. absolutely perfect.

i'm so happy for you! here i am, only 20 and i want a baby of my own b/c of you! dammit!!

Jenny

What does the hat say? I have to know! It's so adorable!

Anya

Ezra is just plain adorable! I was tongue tied when I was born - and they didn't figure it out until I was 3! The result - I talk way too fast because growing up I was always told to "spit it out" when talking. Get that sh*t fixed ASAP!

Amanda

Exquisite! And I love, love, LOVE the name!

Colleen

He is absolutely gorgeous! And tiny! :)

I do remember wondering how in a few hours' time that my scrawny, undersized 3 y.o. turned into a ginormous ogre of a kid compared to his little brother. I must've said "geeeeen-tle" a hundred-bazillion times those first two weeks until Gavin quit trying to put his non-moving brother in a headlock in order to kiss him.

I'm sure you'll both feel 100 times better after his little tongue gets fixed...it worked wonders for my cousin and her baby. No pain (her) and no hungry screaming (baby) afterwards.

Congrats again!!!

Colleen

oh, and my cousin's baby's frenulum was snipped when she was only a few days old (noticed some folks were told to wait till the baby was older)...she barely seemed to notice or care, except that it made it easier to eat.

Erin

Wow, that is one pretty baby! Usually newborns are all scrunched up and squinty, but he's just gorgeous!

Diane

I am sure that you are very busy. But you are just not posting enough pictures of the cuteness! There must be more face time from the boys of absolute adorableness!!!!

Marta

Ezra is absolutely gorgeous. Congratulations on a healthy baby boy!

cebene

I am so jealous! Your boy is as cute as a button, and I have to wait another whole 15 weeks before my baby will arrive! Ezra has definitely put me into Impatient-Mother-To-Be mode! :) Congrats!

beastarzmom

Must. Eat. Cheeks.

Congratulations - he's beautiful.
