The surgery is over. It ended up being a triple bypass, and everything looks good and went fine and there are cheerful handsome doctors making all kinds of happy nodding faces.
I saw him for a minute post-op and kissed his head and held his hand, and that was nice but all the tubes and breathing machines and beeping things were maybe a little too *real* for my squeamish ass. Then I changed a poopy baby diaper that went all the way up to the neck, if you know what I mean. That, oddly enough, did not squick me out in the slightest.
Then I ate a donut. That about brings y'all up to speed.
PS. My mom says to tell you that she thinks you are all wonderful, lovely people. Don't worry, I won't tell her otherwise.
PPS. Ha! I was kidding, right there.
PPPS. God, I'm tired.

My dad's bypass 10 yrs ago was really hard for me. It was hard to see my big, strong dad so frail and vulnerable. I'm so glad your dad's surgery went smoothly. He'll feel so much better now. And yay for poopy diapers to keep us distracted from the messy stuff.

it really is crazy how involved we get with people we don't know - I've been thinking about you and refreshing all day. SO glad things are looking good. All the best to your family - you guys have the internet praying for you (and on a completely selfish note: seeing Ezra's cute little chubby squishy face makes me sooo excited to birth my own little boy #2 in a few weeks. When I'm not looking at Ez I just feel... pregnant... and sleepy... and zzzzzzz. He gives me hope.)

Glad to hear the surgery went well. My mother had valve replacement surgery a few years ago and I know how hard it is to wait and wait and wait. Good thoughts for a fast recovery. Poor Ez, but the kid is so cute he makes my ovaries ache in a good way.

Again, this is like reading about my life a month ago (down to the delicious baby of mine and the surgery being a triple bypass). Modern medicine is wonderful in these situations, and my father is healing wonderfully, as I'm sure yours will be a month from now.

I came across the link to your blog on another person's blog a while back and spent an entire Saturday about two months ago reading your archives. I've been lurking ever since (but not in a creepy way, I swear; just in a voyeuristic way as a newlywed who will soon be trying to get pregnant).

Fantastic news. I'm so glad it's worked out. My father died out of the middle of nowhere just over two years ago, of a heart attack. I mention that only to say that obviously, surgery is scary and hard, but it sure as hell beats the alternative. Get some rest and I wish your dad a speedy recovery.

I am so happy for you and your family. My dad had bypass surgery five years ago and I still remember exactly what he looked like right after surgery. He later joked that we should have taken a picture so that he could see too. Anyway, will say some prayers for everyone.

I'm thinking about all of you and I'm so happy all has gone well today! So, your dad isn't my Papa...but he had a quintuple bypass 14 years ago and is doing beautifully still today. I had my squishy baby there too, like DELIVERED him while my papa was in surgery. I like think that the squishy baby made things work out nicely. My 14 year old baby knows his great grandpa and loves him madly.

My grandmother had triple bypass on Wednesday and it is indeed a long and painful recovery road, but with lovely people like you and your mom and the rest of your family by his side, plus all the love and prayers us internetters are sending your way, he's sure to pull through and be in tip-top 100% shape in no time! I've been where you are right now--my dad had a quad bypass. It gave us 17 more years with him, until we lost him this Thanksgiving. I know how scary it is to see him like that, but he knows you are there (when my dad woke up from his surgery, he told me to go back to college!). Just keep giving him the wonderful medicine that is Ez and Noah. He needs all your love and support for his recovery, which I know he has in spades.
