Done

January 23, 2009

Photo

The surgery is over. It ended up being a triple bypass, and everything looks good and went fine and there are cheerful handsome doctors making all kinds of happy nodding faces.

I saw him for a minute post-op and kissed his head and held his hand, and that was nice but all the tubes and breathing machines and beeping things were maybe a little too *real* for my squeamish ass. Then I changed a poopy baby diaper that went all the way up to the neck, if you know what I mean. That, oddly enough, did not squick me out in the slightest.

Then I ate a donut. That about brings y'all up to speed.

PS. My mom says to tell you that she thinks you are all wonderful, lovely people. Don't worry, I won't tell her otherwise.

PPS. Ha! I was kidding, right there.

PPPS. God, I'm tired.

What a relief for you and your family (and those of us holding our breath and sending our prayers over here). Best wishes to your dad for a speedy recovery.

So glad to hear it went well :)

Posted by: Jem | January 24, 2009 at 07:26 AM

Brilliant news. Your parents spend the first thirtyish years of your life worrying 247 about you and then a switch somewhere flips and its YOUR turn to worry about them.

Posted by: gemma | January 24, 2009 at 08:13 AM

phew! hope he has a speedy recovery!! :)

And I'm right there with you on the to-the-neck (and toes) poopy diapers, too.

Poops don't hurt me as badly as hospital junk, either. So glad for your dad; take care of your mamalah!

Hi Amy,

Usually I read your blog on my Kindle, so I don't comment, but I just wanted to come on here and say that I'm sending bright beams of hope and happiness your way. I've been thinking of you and yours, so reading this news is wonderful indeed. Your dad is a trooper. We will all keep sending the great vibes and prayers for him, and for you and your family.
Hugs and love.

Happy to hear it went well sending good thoughts for all of your family

Posted by: Peggy | January 24, 2009 at 04:34 PM

I'm so glad to hear that he's doing well. My dad had something (we think it was a mini-stroke) a couple of years ago and visiting him in the hospital was the most uncomfortably "real" experience I've ever had. Thankfully he's been well since, but I understand it's a lot to take, seeing dad like that.

I also have an Ezra, by the way, and I smile every time I see yours (mine just turned 3). He (and my other two) are the most wonderfully grounding parts of my life. Sometimes an explosive diaper just reminds you that life goes on, poop and all, and the stuff that sounded so scary (how can that much poop come out of that small a person?) sometimes isn't that bad.

Take care.

Posted by: Kendra | January 24, 2009 at 04:37 PM

Oh thank goodness! I wish him a speedy recovery and all the best luck for the future. :)

Posted by: Marya | January 24, 2009 at 04:45 PM

I'm so glad that everything has gone smoothly. That preshus, preshus baybeeeeee needs his face squeezed and kissed and nommed by as much loving family as possible!

GAWD those cheeks/that chin/that nose/that...face! They cast baby dolls that aren't as totally perfect as he is!

Posted by: Monica | January 24, 2009 at 05:45 PM

Phew! I'll stop holding my breath for you now. Bypass surgery is amazing. Once he gets over the recovery, your dad will feel soooo much better. Thinking of you all.

Posted by: Michelle | January 24, 2009 at 05:51 PM

First thing: YAY Dad!!
Second thing: Seeing someone I love in the hospital has always weirded me out. The first time I ever did it, I totally passsed out. It always sucks. I hope you all get to go home soon.

Baby is all, "i love my grampa."

Posted by: brit | January 24, 2009 at 11:40 PM

Because of stuff and things I missed your post until now.

I'm sending you best wishes to you and your Dad from Vancouver.

I can tell that you really, really love your Dad. And he can tell too.

Posted by: Britt | January 25, 2009 at 02:17 AM

Wonderful news! Thank you for the update. I am so happy for your family. Ezra looks SO cute in that pic.

Posted by: JP | January 25, 2009 at 09:11 AM

I am so glad it went well. Sweet little Ezra looks a bit tired too. What a gorgeous boy!

Posted by: sheilah | January 25, 2009 at 11:19 AM

I'm so thankful all went well. Little Ezra looks pooped- no pun intended. My dad passed away suddenly when my youngest was 4 months old and it was horrible. I understand the emotional stress you are going through and continue to lift your dad/mom/you/family in prayers, praying for a continue recovery!

Posted by: Mirinda | January 25, 2009 at 12:51 PM

Good to hear. Prayers for a speedy recovery!

I know you don't know me at all, but I've been lurking on your site a long, long time.

For whatever it's worth to you, I just wanted to tell you that I'm praying for you and your family.

I think your blog is brilliant, your writing is so clever and funny, and I admire you as a mom. Keep up the good work!

Posted by: Rebekah | January 25, 2009 at 06:52 PM

I'm so glad to hear that your Dad's surgery went well. It must have been the power of Ezra's cuteness!

Posted by: Elizabeth | January 25, 2009 at 08:29 PM

That is great news........deep breath.

That photo of Ez.......well, all I can say is that if I had those kinds of moments with an infant, it would sure make whatever happened in the day that was not so nice...GONE!

Thanks for sharing.

Posted by: Starfruit | January 25, 2009 at 09:07 PM

Might get worse before it gets better...that's actually normal, but no one tells you that. Take care.

Posted by: Amy | January 25, 2009 at 09:48 PM

Glad to hear it, my father in law and Uncle both felt so much better after surgery and recovery. Thoughts are with you guys...
