Still here.

(His bypass surgery is scheduled for Friday, so I'll be here for awhile longer, fighting the good fight for stray wifi signals and drinking WAY! TOO! MUCH! COFFEE! while Ez charms the scrubs off the nurses. Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts this week.)

Definitely in our thoughts and prayers. I'm sure Friday will go off without a hitch.

Incidentally, we went through this with my dad too, and I wasn't able to be there, so I totally understand how you're feeling!

Posted by: Tracy | January 20, 2009 at 03:24 PM

Your being there is what you should be doing. Your Dad needs you and I will be praying that all goes well.

I watched my own father go in for Bypass surgery nearly 9 years ago.
I credit that surgery with my becoming a mother. It is hard to look mortality in the face like that and not wonder what of you will be left behind to carry on.
My Dad was 67 then and in pretty good health.

I know your Dad and your whole family is in for a rough road and the next few weeks and months, even. Keeping spirits up will be hard with it being winter, too. You can do it, though. I know you can.

Thinking of you all!

Posted by: Martha | January 20, 2009 at 03:30 PM

Thinking about you and your family, and hope that everything goes well. I'm sure that Ezra's presence is making his grandfather feel better this week!

Posted by: RJStewart | January 20, 2009 at 03:38 PM

You've given me so many great laughs in place of stress as I've read your pregnancy calendar entries, and now I've found this blog, and I just hope that my good thoughts during this time can give you a fraction back of what you've given to me. Hang in there.

Posted by: Margie | January 20, 2009 at 03:40 PM

Sending all sorts of good thoughts your way.
That photo of Dad and Ezra is so great!

Posted by: Diane | January 20, 2009 at 03:47 PM

Posted by: Elaine | January 20, 2009 at 03:52 PM

Just enjoy this time as much as possible.

Side note - *drool* Sookie Stackhouse book. They are my literary homies.

great pic with your dad. I took a pic of my dad and I holding hands (just our hands) this summer. He passed in Oct. It felt weird to do but I am so glad I did it. You are in my thoughts.

Posted by: Sarey | January 20, 2009 at 04:49 PM

All my best. Take care of yourself, too, during this trying time.

Posted by: Krista | January 20, 2009 at 04:55 PM

I'm de lurking as well for this. You and your dad and family are in our thoughts and prayers for a successful surgery and speedy recovery!!!!!

Posted by: Laura Robinson | January 20, 2009 at 05:06 PM

Thinking of you and praying for you. My stepdad underwent triple bypass surgery 6 years ago (they were expecting to do quintuple bypass, but things looked a little better once they got in there). Recovery was hellish, but he did fine, and he's just as mischievous as ever. Doctors can do amazing things these days.

Posted by: Jana (the poser formerly known as Jezer) | January 20, 2009 at 05:11 PM

Good luck and best wishes to your Dad; I'll be keeping him in my thoughts, hoping he gets well very soon.

Posted by: Adrienne | January 20, 2009 at 05:11 PM

Sending all the best thoughts to you and your family.

I'm sure you'll get 100 of these, but my grandfather had a quadruple bypass at 85, yes, 85 and he recovered amazingly well and lived a wonderful life until he and my grandmother passed (both of natural causes/old age) six weeks apart seven years later. I believe the best can happen and hope it will for your Dad.

Posted by: Melissa | January 20, 2009 at 05:12 PM

I'll be thinking of you and all your family, we went through it 3 years ago when my now 87 year old (yep still going strong!) Grandma had a triple bypass and came through with flying colours! Here's hoping for the same outcome for your dad :)

Posted by: Michelle | January 20, 2009 at 05:15 PM

I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

I have been in this situation and it definitely is no fun. Hope the surgery and recovery goes well!

Posted by: Jessica | January 20, 2009 at 05:16 PM

Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. He'll be just fine!

Posted by: MaureenKL | January 20, 2009 at 05:27 PM

I hope that Living Dead in Dallas will provide some needed mental respite for you. The Sookie Stackhouse books have been a great escape for me.

My thoughts are with you and your family.

Sending huge amounts of love and best wishes your way.

I love the matching haircuts!...uh...hair styles.
Sending good thoughts your way.

Posted by: Jess | January 20, 2009 at 05:40 PM

All our thoughts and prayers are with you. My friend and roommate had a quad bypass almost exactly one year ago. He was only 40, but past drug abuse, and a bad family cardiac history caught up with him. He pushed it a little, but he went back to work after 6 weeks. I tried to get him to wait 6 more, but he wanted to go back. He has a pretty physically demanding job. He slowed down a bit, but not as much as he should. He seems to be doing ok, now, as long as he takes all his meds. He recently stopped taking one of his meds because he felt like it made him retain water, and gain weight. He stopped retaining water, and his jeans fit better, and he was all smug... Right up until his thoracic and abdominal cramps started up again. After a week or so, I talked him into getting a refill and start taking them again, and he stopped cramping almost immed. I hope for the best with your father, and your family.

Delurking to say that I have been thinking of you- my DOD (dear old dad) is coming up on 86 and has a similarly wonky heart, so I am right there with you! Let the gods of WiFi be with you, and let the little man charm the pants off of everyone. Oh, and let your dad get better soon!

Posted by: picklemommy | January 20, 2009 at 07:12 PM

Thoughts are with you... My mom went through this surgery ten years ago, and now she's fit as a fiddle. I hope your father's story turns out the same. She said the surgery sounds a lot scarier than it is. I bet having your little ones around are a breath of fresh air for him and exactly what he needs right now.

Posted by: Caroline | January 20, 2009 at 08:05 PM

It's great that you and the kids are able to be there. I'm sure that means the world to your dad!

p.s. I hope you have the rest of the Sookie Stackhouse books, you can't put them down.

Posted by: Jennifer R | January 20, 2009 at 08:43 PM

It's always painful to have family in the hospital. My fiance's grandfather is still in ICU more than two weeks after a surgery for removing more cancer from his intestines, as well as his gallbladder and things I can't pronounce. :(

Posted by: Michelle | January 20, 2009 at 08:45 PM

Not only are you in my thoughts, but you're in my prayers!

Posted by: Esther | January 20, 2009 at 08:49 PM

I think seeing his adorable grandsons is the best medicine any doctor could have ordered.

Amy,
I have been through some scary surgeries and life-threatening illnesses (yes, illnesses) and I know how really, really earthshattering, kneeshaking, stomachlosing scary it is.
I want you to know, from this little reader, that I am thinking of you and your dad, and definitely sending out some healthy thoughts to all of you.

Posted by: kr | January 21, 2009 at 08:25 AM

Thoughts and prayer coming your way.

My Dad needed heart surgery and was told he wasn't strong enough.

Things only got worse until surgery was the only option.

He came through it wonderfully.

Looks like Ezra is just the medicine he needs right now.

You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. NEVER underestimate the healing power of babies!

Oh, my heart breaks looking at these photos. My sister and I did this vigil with my dad when he was dying of colon cancer in 2004. It's good to have young children around to soothe frayed nerves and give you something else on which to focus. You are all in my prayers.

You, your dad, and the rest of your family are in my prayers. Hope his surgery is a success.
