SNOW DAY

IMG_0308

NOT PLEASED.

IMG_0304

NOT PREPARED.

(BUT NEVERTHELESS IMPRESSED WITH SUPER-STRETCHY PRESCHOOLER-SIZED MITTENS.)

IMG_0313

IMG_0315

VERY PLEASED & SLIGHTLY MORE PREPARED, AS LONG AS WE PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE RUBBER RAIN BOOTS ON HIS FEET.

IMG_0318

WELL, OKAY. LET'S PAY A LITTLE ATTENTION TO THEM. GIRAFFES, PEOPLE! WHO NEEDS WARMTH WHEN YOU HAVE GIRAFFES?

IMG_0312

TAKEN RIGHT BEFORE I THREW A SNOWBALL AT HIM, WHICH MADE HIM SLIGHTLY LESS PLEASED, BUT WHATEVER, I'M TOTALLY A GOOD MOM BECAUSE AT LEAST I GAVE HIM HIS MITTENS BACK AFTER I CLEANED OFF MY CAR WITH THEM. AND NOW MY HANDS ARE TOO COLD TO TURN OFF CAPS LOCK, SORRY. ONE OF THESE WINTERS I'LL REMEMBER TO BUY GLOVES BEFORE MARCH BECAUSE WHO BUYS NEW GLOVES IN MARCH? I'LL JUST LOSE THEM BY NEXT WINTER AND IT PROBABLY WON'T SNOW AGAIN UNTIL NEXT MARCH ANYWAY AND WHO BUYS NEW GLOVES IN MARCH? RIGHT?

WHAT?

Is it wrong that I want to steal your children's clothes?

And quite possibly...your children?

Janna

Don't feel bad- my son is wearing rain boots today and we live in MICHIGAN. Because he likes them and it's easier than fighting him.

Jen

I totally want some giraffe boots. Do they make them for grownup people?

Neena

CUTENESS OVERLOAD.

My hands aren't too frozen to turn off the caps lock key, but I was following suit.

Jenn

I've made it through the entire winter with two mismatched gloves. One is a cheap stretchy chenille glove and the other is a black knit convertible mitten.

My co-workers probably think I'm just disheveled and awkward, but I like to think it's kind of endearing, like a quirky character in a book.

Loralee

I am now convinced that if I owned an adult sized pair of those giraffe boots I would not feel a screaming urge to put my head in a food processor every time I see MORE SNOW outside.

P.S. My first option would be to have a grown up size animal ear jumper like the first photo, but people already think I'm weird enough.

Brooke

We didn't have any accumulation here, but my son wore his snow boots to preschool today anyway. Because he MUST wear his snow boots EVERY DAY as a general rule since we bought them. In August.

Margarita

You should totally buy gloves/mittens in March! They go on sale to make room for the spring stuff.

Missie

Cutest snow children ever.

Amy Jo

We totally used the same rain boots, except ours were the frogs instead of the giraffes. I figure as long as there are at least three pairs of socks on in there, they get to be warm and dry! Bonus! At least you didn't use bread bags, like my parents did for me when I was little. LAME!

Elizabeth_K

Aren't snow days fun? As long as there aren't too many of them ...

Dana

I'm so jealous of your snow day. Yet another reason to get out of stupid snow-free Florida and go back to the DC area where things are normal.

We don't even get hurricane days down here!

And at least you didn't put socks on his hands.

Florencia

My daughter has the same giraffe boots and ladybug boots too. Dad takes her out in the rain to splash int he puddles then gives her a warm bath and voila! nap time!

tutugirl1345

Aren't you worried that all that cuteness will melt the snow??

Parsing Nonsense

At least you didn't burst through you son's mitten like the Hulk. I borrowed my niece's mitten to sweep off the slide and burst through it like a newborn calf through sausage casing. She may have cried and I may have felt horrible about it. Maybe.

pam

Those are the cutest boots I've ever seen.

Alicia

haha! those are awesome boots!

Sprite's Keeper

TOTALLY CAPS WORTHY.

Ellen

I guess I forgot that there was a difference between rain boots and snow boots. No wonder my kid was complaining that he couldn't feel his toes. Oops! I was also that huge preggo out shoveling my driveway. I may not be winning the Mom of the Year award this year!

cate

egads, your boys are such cuties

BedsideTalesMan

2 things....please buy him different boots. those may be cute and all....but what is going to happen when he is 16 and he sees a picture of the sissy boots you put on him?

On another note...my dad used to wipe the car off with me. he'd put me on the windshield and push me right across. I'd freeze and he'd laugh.

Miss Grace

Gabriel had those boots last winter, and now I get to see them on my adorable niece for bonus double winters of giraffey cuteness.

Ashley Fitting

Ok, first and foremost, I want a snow day, but here in SoCal, it is 80 degrees and sunny. Feel free to hate me :-) I love snow however. Also, Ez may be not pleased, but DAHHAAM he is cute :-) I think small children should always wear snow clothes that have ears on them :-) Or boots with giraffes... I used to work at the SD Zoo and if it rained more here, I TOTALLY would have worn them :-)

Also, get some damn gloves woman. :-) Enjoy the snow!

Hez

Right now in lovely Canada, it's absolutely frickin' FREEZING... but with no snow. So we can't even play around in our giraffe boots without looking silly.

Bea

Me! I want giraffe boots please!

Kristin

Totally love those boots. I can't weigh in on the gloves because I've had the same pair for almost 20 years.

r+k+mama

The cuteness of children trouncing around wearing animals on their feet!
When you lose your gloves in March in my frozen tundra of a state, you are SOL. After February 15th bikinis are the new gloves. It's MINNESOTA. Someone needs to explain the weather patterns of the Northern Midwest to Target's people before we all start walking around with swimsuits tied to our hands.

Amanda

At least you didn't force your 4-month old to make a snow angel. Without mittens.

And then laugh when she started to cry and "quick take a couple more pictures of how sad she is before we bring her inside!"

Not that anything like that happened here this morning or anything...

Amanda

Oh, and also? I looked like a complete hobo with my thumb sticking out of my stretch glove. Been meaning to get a new pair since...forever? But who has time to grab a new pair of 99cent stretch gloves from the rack at the front of the CVS that you're in at least twice a week? I mean, SERIOUSLY.

Katherine Carignan

Amy Jo, Thanks for the bread bag comment! My parents used to do that to us and I had totally forgotten (repressed??) it.

My 10 yr old went out today -- so excited, first time we've had enough snow to cancel school here in Va in 4 years. I didn't know she was wearing her old rain boots with NO SOCKS! She came back in and couldn't get her boot off--and ended up sticking an entire stick of butter down in her boot to grease up the works. It worked--but now my kitchen counter, covered in butter, contains an old rain boot, greasy on the inside and out and several buttery towels. I was feeling guilty that I hadn't bought her new boots this year, but we've so rarely needed them I didn't think it was worth it. I'm sure my sending her out in bread bags over her shoes would have cured her usual lust for snow days!

Type (little) a

Were you freakin spying on me today? Because I wore my 4.5 y/o daughter's gloves today too. It was that or the ice scraper inside a mitten thing my grnadma got me for christmas. But I only have one of them. I agonized over her butterfly rain boots or her pink fake uggs. She wore her un-waterproofed f-Uggs, because Mommy is all about fashion.

SNOW DAY FAIL

Karen

Love the mittens! So much more practical than gloves. Do you know how long it takes to put gloves on a two year old? I do. Add that to the "what was I thinking" category!

Jess

newborn calf through a sausage casing may be one of the funniest things I've read on a comment board in a long time.

Brooke

I've been meaning to tell you this...Ezra totally looks like Zuma Rossdale! I thought so before, but now there's a picture on people.com and I jsut think they look so much alike! Both your boys are ADORABLE!

Erica

Are rainboots bad? Just put on two pairs of socks! Those far outweigh the cuteness factor than boring ole snowboots.

kim at allconsuming

Forget the gumboots, although they are cute, that beanie is adorable. ADORABLE.

Anyabeth

Man, I was totally thinking how smart the rainboots were--more practical! And the mittens still fit! Way to stretch the dollar. If anyone judges that well I am destined to fail in so many ways.

Leeloo

Chicago is currently in its usual manic snow-warm-snow-warm-snow phase that makes small, cooped-up children attempt to slide down the stairs in boxes. To alleviate this, I took her outside to play.

I only had one pair of snow boots for her...mine. Thank god for woolen socks.`

MiniHipster.com

LOVE those boots. He should be on minihipster.com with those!

MiniHipster.com

Michelle

Those boots are awesome! Are those handles at the top to aid in application?

supertiff

the bear suit made me die a little, and the boots finished me off.
i am now dead.

supertiff

p.s. i want elephant boots. if they make giraffe boots, there must be elephant boots.
i bet they'd make me look skinny.

Jeanette

Now I don't feel so bad about being *unprepared* for the snow...Of course we live in GEORGIA, so snow was not expected. My poor son had to wear socks on his hands because we couldn't find any of his gloves.

Tracy H

I refused to buy snowboots for my girls this year because it never snows enough for them to wear them and well money down the drain. But of course, lots of snow yesterday, mom feeling guilty, can't send the kids out in the snow in sneakers! So, I had to trek out to Target in a blizzard and ended up with $20 rain boots for my kids to wear in the snow. Oh well, they are very cute!

kris

I just wear my husbands old gloves. I own gloves they just aren't water resistant. His aren't as water resistant as they used to be but now I see it's better than trying to wear the kids. :) My boys had a blast in the snow. I'm glad Noah enjoyed it.

marcoda

Apparently no one in MINNESOTA buys mittens in February and no one's preschooler grows in the WINTER except mine because although Target (a MINNESOTA BASED COMPANY) has an over ubundance of SWIM SUITS there's not ONE GAWL DARN PAIR OF MITTENS IN THE ENTIRE FRICKEN FRACKEN STORE.
Stupid winter. I'm so over it.

Sarah @ BecomingSarah.com

OHMYGODTHOSEBOOTSARESOCUTE!!!

That's all I got out of this post. Cute kids. Cute boots.

Cat

I never remember to buy a swim suit until July, and then there's never any left at Target except bottoms that don't have tops and tops that are XXXXXL, or I could go to the Mall of America to the special swim suit store and buy a golden, magical, $4000 swim suit.

This is how I end up wearing gloves in the pool. It's really embarrassing.

lisa

What!? You actually managed to buy gloves in March! No Way! I lost my gloves in early January and I haven't been able to replace the yet!

Oh yeah, I forgot. Glove buying time in New England is August. I'm such an ignoramus.

Sylv

These comments are HILARIOUS!!

And yes, I'll take a pair of elephant boots as well, please.

Donna

My 7yr old son is wearing his sister's hot pink boots!

Mallory

I'm sure you know all about this already, but just in case: diet changes can make a huuuge difference in some children with autism/aspergers/SPD/nothing at all! Generally a casein-free and gluten-free diet. This is a good resource: www.gapsdiet.com.

Jo

My Son has the same exact gloves and my hubby and I are having a debate... Are the little rubberized trucks for the inside of the hand for extra grip or for the outside of the hand for noticable decoration?!? I say- grip! To practical??

Aileene

My 6 month old saw the picture of those boots and I now have a keyboard full of baby drool lol. For some strange reason he has a thing for giraffes.

btw, I live in upstate ny and I just bought my winter coat yesterday. I've been making due with hooded sweatshirts and I don't own a pair of gloves, I always lose mine about 3 days after I get them.

--Aileene

Karen MEG

Giraffes! Did they come in hippos too, so sweet

So I had to buy myself some gloves in March after I lost my spare pair...quel loser.

Elizabeth

I MUST KNOW WHERE YOU BOUGHT NOAH'S HAT. PLEASE AND THANK YOU.

(poor Ezra, in the snowsuit of evil and all)
