Posted by: Maria | March 28, 2011 at 10:03 AM

I have a picture of holding my dad's hand a few days before he passed and it is one of my most precious possessions. I am so sorry for you, I know how sad this is, how terribly you will always miss him but it does settle into a liveable pain eventually and having very little people to care for helps enormously. Lots of love to you and your family at this sad time. Helen.

Posted by: Erin | March 28, 2011 at 10:05 AM

I'm so, so sorry, Amy.

I know you wrote of conflicting emotions and I want to be yet another person to reassure you it's normal. My mother died shortly (like two weeks) after I got married and my last two grandparents (one of whom raised me and was really more like my dad) both died while I was pregnant with my son. Please, please don't knock yourself out when happiness over your impending arrival sneaks in through your grief. Obviously I didn't know your dad, but I can't imagine he'd want you to feel guilty over that.

Posted by: Amy | March 28, 2011 at 10:05 AM

So very sorry, Amy. Sending you and your family love.

My father has been gone for 30 years now. It still hurts, but I promise the bad hurt will not last as long as you think it will right now. Your father will ALWAYS be with you, you will never be alone. Hold on to that and know that we are all with you, supporting you, until you can bear it on your own.

Posted by: Plano Mom | March 28, 2011 at 10:09 AM

My deepest sympathies, Amy. What a lucky father he was to have you as his daughter. Xoxo.

Posted by: Liz | March 28, 2011 at 10:18 AM

I lost my dad in a car accident a couple of years ago. It's such an odd and terrible feeling, but the good news is that your babies will help you remember that life can be good too. Maybe you can incorporate your dad's name in your new baby's name, as a fitting tribute. My second baby, born just under a year after my dad died, shares a first letter with him.
