Technicalogical Difficulties

So I had this whole post planned for today, but this whole post centered around some photos I took with my real camera (I know, fancy, right?) instead of my phone, and thus everything depended on getting those photos off the real camera and I have now spent two! hours! looking for my memory card reader and then 20! minutes! trying every USB cable in the house, and yet the photos remain solidly, irrevocably trapped on the memory card because this is what happens when I try to like, not do things half-assed like usual. Lesson: NEVER TRY. AIM LOW.

I'm telling you all this because I feel like I should at least earn partial credit.

Anyway, here are some pictures I took with my phone.

Ike-2122012-3

And you know I have a good dozen more semi-identical photos of him sitting here in that same spot, making variations on the same two faces, so I would just count your lucky stars that I didn't post them all and move along. There is nothing to see here.

(DEAR MEMORY CARD READER STOP RUINING EVERYTHING WHAT THE HELL I JUST SAW YOU YESTERDAY COME BACK PLEASE)

(DEAR AMAZON KINDLE GOOD NEWS I FOUND YOUR POWER CORD SO NOW IF I COULD JUST REMEMBER WHERE I LEFT YOU WE'LL BE GOOD TO GO)

(DEAR A/C ADAPTOR OF MYSTERY PLEASE GIVE ME A HINT BECAUSE I'M TOO AFRAID TO THROW YOU OUT)

(DEAR SELF STOP YELLING AT YOUR ELECTRONICS THEY DON'T HAVE EARS)

Can I just say that, in all your photos, your house always looks so clean and uncluttered? I know you have a dog, a cat, and THREE kids. So how do you manage that???

Melissa

My life changed the day I started using the Eye-Fi memory card. Seriously, I had 100 cables in the desk drawer and none every worked on the damn camera. The Eye-Fi uploads all the images wirelessly to my computer if the camera is in the same room. It will even send photos to social media and print/sharing sites if you are confident enough that all your photos are keepers.

Daisy

After having one too many Mysterious AC Adaptors I started a very scientific (and posh!) system: open new packaging. Take cords & disks and toss in ziplock bag and write with Sharpie what they go to. Toss in drawer in filing cabinet. It isn't pretty but damn, it works.

Dawn

OM NOM NOM NOM. BABY FEET.

That is all.

Carry on.

ginger

Dude, the third pic--the Jason is strong (eyes/nose). Got any baby pics of him at Ike's age for scientific, internet bloggything comparison, cause wow.

michele

look at him sitting up like a champ! He has that sitting up thing DOWN! (now on to regulation crawling ...)

Sally

Most of the time, I am 100% sure I am done having kids, but when I am looking at a picture of Ike, it drops to like 80%. For this, my husband is angry at you.

Cristin

That kid. Is so wee and darling. I accept the iPhone photos.
I have a whole container of mysterious wires and cables that we can't throw away bc WE MAY NEED THEM ONE DAY. Dell printer wires circa 1999. Oh, well.

Arnebya

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIKE! Stop it with the growing and the fast ass growing. And the growing! (Also, we have a bag of tangled, mangled black no one knows cords that we refuse to throw away. THEY MIGHT GO TO SOMETHING).

Lindsay

OMG I want to nom on that baby. And the adorable owl toy.

christine

Oh, that OWL! I pass it all the time at Target and tell myself that my baby doesn't need it. I think she does.

Becca Lynn

I don't care. Post 100 pictures of those same two faces. I will gobble them ALL up. And ask for seconds. Or... One hundred and seconds. ;-)

Also, I FINALLY SEE IT. He is totally Noah v. 2.0

Not Beehive

Ike is just about the most adorable baby EVER!

LMo

Holy cow, that is one abnormally cute baby! I have nothing else to contibute because my fiance is a tech-guy and handles all electronics for me. Prior to him, they tended to commit suicide by spontaneously falling off of tall counters.

Bren

Ike is just too cute for words! I could look at TONS of pictures of him - even if they are only slightly different from one another! Oh and I have about 5 mystery cords that I am terrified to throw away because, you know, that is when I will figure out what they are for!

Sarah

This is incredibly validating. My relationship with technology and all its accutrements is love/hate. I haven't seen my iPod in a loooong time, although I do have the charger. I have a wonderful/stupid Sony, so a standard memory card reader doesn't work. It's amazing how long the journey from camera to laptop can be--like salmon swimming upstream to spawn. We just collapse from the effort. Congrats on having actual pictures (And Words!) to post on a Friday afternoon!

Allisone

The teeth!
I want to nom him, but he'd nom back. My window of opportunity has closed.

Amy in StL

This may explain why my new laptop comes with a 9 in 1 memory card reader. It didn't make sense to me; but I'm sure if I'd lost my memory card reader and the cable to my camera it would make a lot more sense.

Judy

My camera cable...knowing how I am about such things, from day one I have kept it in the box in which Amazon delivered the camera, thinking I am less likely to lose a fairly large box than a small cable with some prongs on the end. I was wrong. I have no idea where the box is. Camera's right here on the desk.

Jimmy

That whole cable thing is such a pain. That's why I bought this: http://www.thebookofjimmy.com/?p=606

It's a wireless memory card for your camera. Photos automatically upload from your camera to your computer and you dont have to plug anything in. It has changed my life. Seriously. And it seems to upload just as fast as my cord did.

I got the 4GB card (which was double my old card - and I never managed to fill that one before). It cost 40 bucks on amazon.

It is awesome. You owe it to yourself to buy this device.

aibee

Ike is one seriously cute baby.

Lu

*technological

Kimm

There was a funny cartoon in the New Yorker recently, a man gestures to an entire roomful of a/c adapters, and says to his son, "someday, this will all be yours." We have so many of those for old cell phones, ipods, etc. and I'm afraid to throw them out just in case.

grammargeek

We have that owl! Only it is much smaller. (I mean, unless Ike is a miniature baby, but I doubt that.)

Kelley

Oh man. He's cute.

I had the same problem today, threw up my hands, and just used the damn instagram photos.

We do what we can. And I'm with Bren and a few other readers...can't throw those ambiguous cords away...

Kristin

OMG, he's so freaking cute.

And, if you find your Kindle, ask it where my iPod is. My iPod touch is MIA...going on 2 weeks now.

Commercial Product Photography

So sweet baby photo.

Francesca

Is it the lighting/my monitor or is Ike redheaded? =D

Stacey

I have your perfect solution--get an Eye-Fy card!!! All of your photos will automatically be sent to your computer & online photo location of your choice (kodak/snapfish/etc), and they let you download an app for your iPhone, so those pictures can get sent to your computer too. This thing has totally changed my life :)

Lis

Here in the future, we have computers that let you put the memory stick DIRECTLY INTO THEM. it's neat. :)

Ike looks so childlook suddenly! Why does this keep happening to the babies?! it's not fair!

tracey

Just so you know, though we love you and your writing is witty and fun, we're really all here for the baby pictures. So feel free to overindulge, even if they're all very similar.

thank you.

;)

tracey

Shoot. I hope my sarcasm came through on that comment. I'd hate for you to think that I don't actually like you. I like you! I really LIKE you!

Claudia

Oh, god, he is too cute.

Korinthia Klein

I have nothing to add here other than this post really made me laugh and I needed a laugh! Thank you.

Elaine

I sooo can emphatise. I have no idea where my card reader is either and as a result my blog has bee rather devoid of pictures.

Wendy

Did Lu really just correct your spelling of technological? Like she thinks your really think it's spelled the way you wrote it? Bwahahahaha...

Also, I am going to make a comment that is going to be wildly unpopular here, but I just need to know if I'm the only one... I have an irrational fear(? - not really a fear, but creeped out in some way) by the cloth diaper thing. I don't understand it. In theory, I think cloth diapering is awesome, and I applaud everyone who does it - good for the baby, good for the environment. Theoretically, I am all for it! But. Babies in cloth diapers creep me out. Ike is pure adorbs, but then I see the cloth diaper thing and I shudder. Why?!? Is anyone else out there like me??? What is WRONG with me??

Kai

Suggestion on the cord front, it's super eas.... hypno baby rules!!!! ooo baby toes!

What was I talking about?
Right - a label maker label with the device name (and year) wrapped around the cord. The labels are practically indestructible and really, who doesn't love label makers?

*please don't label baby toes they are too cute for that.

Qatey

Hey! We have that toy too! Also with a substitute teething ring. Did yours crack too and give you nightmares of baby swallowing a broken half wooden ring?

The Woman Formerly Known as Beautiful

Are you posting your baby pictures again? Because that baby is you, no? You are such a cute baby!

Marinka

Your electronics may not have ears but I'm pretty sure that they read your blog, so you're good!

Chris

Soooo cute! And hair, look at all that hair! Is Ike just perpetually happy, or do you just send us the good pics? Cause that looks like one smiley, happy kid. When I'm having a down day, I come here and look at some adorable kid pics - all better. You're performing a valuable public service, ha.

Nancy aka Wacky Mommy

happy Valentine's Day, Amy.
