Okay, credit where credit is due here: The inclusion of this passage is pretty great. Breastfeeding rates at this time were abysmally low; La Leche League was a year away from publishing "The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding," and formula was still seen as "clean" and "scientific" and "superior."
So to teach the idea -- to high school girls, no less -- that nursing provides essential developmental benefits to a baby beyond simple nutrition? Damn.
