This Is the Halloween That Never Ends
November 01, 2013
It's ridiculous how many Halloween-related photos I've posted already, isn't it?
AND YET
Noah "marching" in his school's Halloween parade. Happily, proudly.
Ike joined in and may have stolen a little of the second graders' collective thunder, but they didn't seem to mind. Especially the girls. At the classroom party afterwards you'd have thought I'd brought them a pony, rather than a 2 year old.
/gratuitous
Later, Noah AGAIN changed his mind about treat-or-treating (we'd agreed that he'd stay home and hand out candy with me, because he gets nervous about spooky/decorated houses) at the very, very last minute. Jason, Ezra and Ike were literally halfway out the door when he decided to put his costume back on — this time with a collared shirt and Hogwarts tie! — and join the fun.
I made the mistake of trying to photograph the fun. Or the...pre-fun, I guess, when everybody was too damn excited to stand still and look normal for 10 flipping seconds.
WHAT THE HELL? THERE'S CANDY *RIGHT* THERE, PEOPLE! WHY ARE YOU TAKING ME AWAY FROM THE CANDY AND YET SAYING WE'RE GOING TO GO GET MORE CANDY? NOTHING ABOUT ANY OF THIS MAKES A LICK OF SENSE AND Y'ALL ARE SMOKING CRAZY PILLS OMG.
That's a Trader Joe's cereal bar, by the way, courtesy of some neighbors who forgot to buy candy. Ezra was more excited about that cereal bar than anything else in his bucket.
Noah traded Ezra his cereal bar for a peanut butter cup. Cuz he knows what's what.
Ike's hair, post-Doc-Brown-teasing and trick-or-treating in a humid drizzle. Yesssssss my preciousssss.
I love it! ALL OF IT! We had a weird, is there going to be a STORM OF DOOM or isn't there night complete with a mall trip that lasted about 10 seconds until we saw the crowd and said fuck it, we're going home and trick-or-treating in the rain, tornado or no tornado.
Still pretty awesome. Complete with homemade costumes, which I wrote about here:
http://jaimalaya.blogspot.com/2013/11/homemade-friday-batman-and-wizard.html
Because I live with mom-guilt every day and my mom made all of my costumes so therefore I have to make all of my children's costumes.

My curly top played his curls up one year to become Chewbacca. So hoping that Ike's curls stick around-the costume ideas are boundless!

Noah looked so awesome as Harry Potter I cannot even take it!
Ezra is scrumptious no matter what he wears.
Ike...man I just want to touch that hair :)

My 21 month old had the exact same reaction to leaving behind the candy we had in our entryway. NOOOOO CANDY LET ME GO BAAAAACK.
Glad you guys all had fun!

Zaid got a Special K bar and never looked back at the Snickers. Oh, word? OK then, more for me, bruh.
And I'm going to say this as uncreepily as I can but if you and the readers take it as creepy then that's on y'all because that's not how I mean it but OMG I WANT TO KIDNAP IKE AND I THINK I PROBABLY MIGHT SURELY MAYBE DEFINITELY TRY IF I GOT THE CHANCE.

Your children are gorgeous.
You can bring siblings to class parties? Our principal's rule is no siblings at class parties and she says it is an MCPS rule that is enforced district wide.

Your baby is officially my favorite child in the history of the internetz. The look on his face in the picture of him getting candy out of the candy bowl made my afternoon. I hope my child is half as entertaining as yours are...and that I can keep the crazy in check just enough to enjoy it every now and then!

@jodifur What? Da hell? Siblings have always been welcome at the parties at Noah's school. Everybody brings their other kids. Our principal & vice principal even made a big fuss over Ike's yesterday. It is a pretty chill school though.

@amalah My principal sucks. But um yeah! Halloween! (Sorry for hijacking.)

Why don't kids get that we must take ALL THE PICTURES before they can have any candy?

Noah looks SO happy as Harry Potter. Makes my heart melt. Also the pic with Ike the monkey holding hands with him.
And they are all adorable.

After years of rooting yet cringing for Noah around this holiday, it makes my heart swell to see him willingly in a Halloween costume and looking like he might even be enjoying it, even if it is just a means to get candy.
You rock, Noah.

Noah as Harry Potter - highlight of my day. SO FREAKING ADORABLE! Not that I'm playing favorites - but - my favorite. And I might even be including my own little Texas Tech cheerleader in the mix. Different kind of adorable - they both get to win!

So late but my kid (almost 4) got a NutriGrain bar (that was artfully left out on the porch by the neighbor with "take one" sign) and he too was all about that damn bar and ate it first.
